New build and self-build homes in Norfolk & Suffolk

Building a new home gives you the opportunity to create a property around the way you want to live.

You may already own a plot, be considering building within a large garden or be searching for land with development potential.

We help clients across Norfolk and Suffolk assess sites, develop designs and navigate the planning and technical process needed to turn an idea into a buildable home.

A new-build home is simply a newly constructed property.

A self-build is a project where the future homeowner takes responsibility for creating the property, usually by appointing an architect, builder and other specialists rather than physically carrying out all the work themselves.

In both cases, the architectural process may include assessing the site, developing the design, securing planning permission and preparing detailed information for construction.

You do not need to understand every stage before speaking to us. We can help you establish where to begin.

What is the difference between a new build and a self-build?

How we can help

Designing for the site, not just the floor plan

The best new homes respond to their surroundings.

Orientation, views, natural light, access, landscape and neighbouring properties should all influence the design. Energy use, insulation, heating and future running costs also need to be considered from an early stage.

A clear brief helps balance aspiration with what is realistic for the site and budget.

Experience from first idea to finished building

A Squared Architects works on projects ranging from individual new homes to larger residential and commercial schemes. Our directors bring knowledge gained within a much larger property environment, alongside the personal, hands-on service of an independent practice.

We can provide the stages you need, whether that is an early site appraisal or support throughout the full process.

Hingham, Norfolk

This stunning render and stone-clad two-storey contemporary house was constructed in 2022 on an empty plot in the heart of the market town of Hingham in South Norfolk.

We worked with the client to incorporate renewable technologies including an air source heat pump, PV solar panels and a rainwater harvesting system.
